How It Works

This calorie calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation to compute Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), then applies an activity level factor to determine Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE).

BMR formula:

BMI is calculated as weight(kg) / height(m)².
Ideal weight uses the Devine formula adjusted for gender.
Macronutrients are split as 50% carbs, 25% protein, 25% fat of total TDEE.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Mifflin-St Jeor equation?

The Mifflin-St Jeor equation is a formula used to estimate Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) based on age, gender, weight, and height. It's considered one of the most accurate BMR estimation methods. For men: BMR = 10 × weight(kg) + 6.25 × height(cm) - 5 × age + 5. For women: BMR = 10 × weight(kg) + 6.25 × height(cm) - 5 × age - 161.

What is TDEE and how is it calculated?

TDEE stands for Total Daily Energy Expenditure. It's your BMR multiplied by an activity factor that reflects your lifestyle: 1.2 (sedentary), 1.375 (lightly active), 1.55 (moderately active), 1.725 (very active), or 1.9 (super active). This represents your total daily calorie burn including exercise and daily activities.

How much should I eat to lose weight?

To lose weight, eat 300–500 calories less than your TDEE for gradual loss (about 0.5kg/week), or 500–1000 calories less for faster loss (about 1kg/week). Never eat below your BMR without medical supervision, as this can slow your metabolism.

Is my data safe?

Yes. All processing happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your input never leaves your device and is not sent to any server.

What is the ideal weight calculation based on?

The ideal weight is calculated using the Devine formula. For men: 50 + 0.9 × (height in cm - 152). For women: 45.5 + 0.9 × (height in cm - 152). This is a general guideline and doesn't account for muscle mass or body composition.
